Book Review: 'Takedown' by Lana Hartley

Author Lana Hartley has published two books to date – CAPTURED HEART and now TAKE DOWN. She writes psychological romances with bad boys and strong alpha females. Before branching out on her own solo works she was part of Naughty Angel Publishing.

It is always refreshing when new authors show concern for their readers by offering Author’s Notes – a move to involve the reader in the manner in which the author crafts stories. ‘When I think of submission, I don’t think about weakness. Submission isn’t weakness. It’s not about losing power. Submission isn’t forced, it’s not coerced and it isn’t given lightly. This is a book about power—losing it, winning it, shaping it…giving it up and letting it go. The heroine is no wallflower, and the hero is every bit her match in every way. But when two powerful people come together, there’s always a struggle for who’s on top…Lucky for them, they can take it from the streets to the sheets. Submission isn’t about weakness. It’s about trust. It’s about respect for each other, and above all else, it’s about love. Always love. I loved writing this book for you all, and I hope you enjoy it too. There’s something sensual and delicious about pushing boundaries, playing with fire and bathing in its glow. Things are about to get hot…and steamy…and a little dark, too. But the darker the final hour, the happier the happily ever after, right? Let’s dive into the dark together and let the flames of passion light our way.‘

Lana takes on strip clubs and their clientele – both the women who perform and the men who ‘benefit’. The writing uses X rated language to an extreme so offering a sample of Lana’s pages is not feasible. The synopsis she gives us is sufficient to sell the book: ‘’Obsessed. Consumed. There's only one thing I want. To make her mine...Billionaire bad boy who always gets his way. Women fall at my feet. On their knees. Begging for a piece of me. Then she walks in. Molly. Sweet but shrewd. Determined to take me down. But she's got another thing coming. My goal is set. My mind made up. She'll be the one to go down. And it won't be easy. She'll give me what I want. But in return we may both get more than we bargained for. Because my obsession may just be my downfall...’

For a newcomer Lana Hartley is sure to please the Chick Lit audience. VERY erotic and steamy but with a hefty dose of psychodrama added. Grady Harp, April 18
