Book Review: 'Soaring' by Matti Dobbs

California author Matti Dobbs received her PhD from University of Southern California, Los Angeles and her Certified Professional Coach Certification from the College of Executive Coaching, Pismo, CA. She is a highly respected spiritual leader, transformational speaker, psychotherapist, organizational consultant, and educator, having served as a Co-spiritual Director, Center for Spiritual Living, Carlsbad, CA, Ordained Minister, Centers for Spiritual Living, Golden, CO, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, State of California, and Professor Emerita, San Diego State University. Her credentials gleam.

But in addition to the impressive background Matti is an inspirational coach and writer and in this easy to read and adopt book she presents her twelve `Flight Lessons' that teach us to Soar. AS she states in her Introduction, `Soaring is a spiritual journey. Soaring shows you how to turn the invisible into the visible, how to turn your hopes and dreams into reality. This book taps in to the deepest recesses of your soul and your innermost thoughts to clarify what you want from your life. It is a guide to knowing yourself more intimately and connecting with your spiritual center to live life more fully, empowered, and joy-filled. Soaring is living your best life. You know who you are and where you are going, and you use Divine guidance and your own inner resources to get you there.' Her Flight Lessons `reflect changes in my spiritual consciousness to levels of knowing and being that transcend everyday living. I soar. The aim of this book is to share with you some of the lessons I learned along the way.' Assuring us of the positive results of her approach she shares her own life experiences as well as those of fellow travelers, making the concepts `grounded' in reality and experience while teaching us to soar.

Though reading the book is the only way to absorb all Matti has to share, the Flight lessons can be listed: 1 - The Soaring Plan, 2 - Awakening your Spirituality, 3 - Developing Your Flight Plan, 4 - Visualize it! Picture it! Affirm It!, 5 - Igniting Love, 6 - Lifting Off with Gratitude, 7 - Praying to Increase Altitude, 8 - Meditating to Regenerate Your Spirit, 9 - Forgiving to Forget, 10 - Encountering Turbulence, 11 - Nurturing Mind, Body, and Spirit, and 12 - Soaring: Living Empowered and Joyful.

In her closing remarks Matti states, `Our purpose here is to learn, grow, and unfold; to live a life of meaning and purpose based on our own hopes, desires, and aspirations. Just as the acorn's destiny is to be an oak tree, your destiny is to discover and live in alignment with the power within you; to live life empowered and joyful.'`You greet others on the path with you with "Namaste," which means "The God in me recognizes the God in you."
A very spiritual journey with a learned and compassionate friend. Grady Harp, June 15
