Book Review: 'Midnight Heat' by Jordyn White

Author J.L. White specializes in erotica - ‘steamy romances featuring smart, sexy women and the swoon-worthy men who adore them. Her sexy love stories are full of passion but don't skimp on the tenderness.’ The market for novels of this nature seems to grow daily, but then just look at what is on television now and on selfies and the appetite of the reading public is evident.

J.L.’s sense of humor comes to the fore in her firsts paragraphs- ‘After a nine-month separation, my dearest girlfriends and I have been reunited for a mere twenty minutes when Sam already starts in on me. “Okay girls, we have a mission,” she says. “We’re finding Chloe a date for the reception.” I roll my eyes. Isabella’s wedding is in exactly five days. Only Sam would think that’s still plenty of time to find me a date. Never mind that the wedding has practically already started. It’s the Monday afternoon before the marriage actually takes place this Saturday. The guests have been arriving at the Rivers Paradise Resort in spurts all day long. It’s the most luxurious resort in California, hands down, located on the central California coast in Swan Pointe. Hartman College (where we all met) is just an hour and a half inland. We made various excursions to Swan Pointe all through college and I actually moved here after I graduated. I was only here for a few months, but I used to see the Rivers Paradise Resort, perched up on the hill overlooking the ocean, every day on my way to work.‘

And so we’re back in the world of Isabella, Chloe, Ashley and Sam - the Fireworks Girls. This time around the emphasis is on a different member:’ Letting him go was a mistake. Watching him with her is a disaster. They call us the Firework Girls. I’m Chloe. It’s bad enough to be left practically at the altar, even worse to rebound with a perfect guy at the wrong time. But seeing your soul mate hook up with one of your best friends? There’s only one word for that: Hell’

Playful fun mixed with steamy erotica (though it does take a while to get there) make this a quick evening read and that is just one of the reasons this author will catch on. Grady Harp, April 16
