Book Review: 'Don't Feed the Elephant!' by Sherry Ellis

Georgia author Sherry Ellis is a lady with many talents - not only does she write exceptional children's books, but she also is a professional musician who plays and teaches violin, viola, and piano. She is the author of ‘Ten Zany Birds’, `That Baby Woke Me Up, AGAIN' (her debut book), and `That Mama is a Grouch' (honored as a finalist is in two awards and a winner in the 2011 International Book Awards. It also was awarded first place in the parenting category of the 2011 Pinnacle Book Awards and was the recipient of the silver award in the 2013 Mom's Choice Awards. And this book, illustrated by Anwar Hussain, is DON’T FEED THE ELEPHANT! She lives with her family in Atlanta, Georgia.

Written in lilting language, we meet the big elephant who makes a mess of every snack he is offered and the joy of the hilarious antics of the story provide a subtle but solid introduction to the alphabet – every snack abuse by the elephant begins with the sequential letters of the alphabet. z

The story is fun with its exaggerated food accidents and the reaction of the snack donors to the fun and beautifully illustrated situations that flood the pages of this superb book. repeated and the wonderful aspect for children (well, one of the wonderful aspects!) is the fact that by reading the story they have learn the alphabet! Excellent on every level. Let's hope Sherry Ellis continues her passion for writing children's books. Highly Recommended. Grady Harp, February 18
