Book Review: 'The Terry Treetop Collection' by Tali Carmi
Tali Carmi continues her entertaining and educational series of children's books in this handsome and richly written and illustrated bundle of books from her two highly lauded series – TERRY TREETOP and ABIGAIL. For those who are entering Tali’s world for the first time, this collection of eight stories (formerly individual books) will surely delight. Though these books are written for children ages 3 to 8 the characters are so well drawn and the stories so rich in entertainment, discovery, fantasy, imagination and learning that parents (or whoever is the fortunate reader!) will gain as much pleasure as the children. TH illustrations are by Mindy Liang
Red--headed freckled faced Terry Treetop (he earned the moniker because of his love for climbing trees) leads the pack with five stories – TERRY TREETOP AND THE LOST EGG, WHERE IS MY HOME?, TERRY TREETOP FINDS NEW FRIENDS, TERRRY TREEPTOP AND THE LITTLE BEAR, TERRY TREETOP SAVES THE DOLPHIN. Tali’s writing is poetically presented and Mindy’s illustrations are superb.
The remainder of the collection is devoted to ABIGAIL - an imaginative and curious little girl who uses her curiosity and imagination and enthusiasm to find a wonderful adventure. The three books about her are ABIGAIL AND THE TROPICAL ISLAND ADVENTURE, ABIGAIL AND THE NORTH POLE ADVENTURE (both illustrated by Neda Fuchedzhieva), and ABIGAIL AND THE SAHARA ADVENTURE (illustrated by Mindy Liang).
The marriage of words and images is just right for these nice little stories that celebrate curiosity, imagination, and the love of discovering new ideas, new places, new cultures, and new people. Tali has given us books that all are fine lessons, told in a most inspiring manner. Grady Harp, September 17
