Book Review: '5 Evolutions For Sustainable Weight Loss' by Dr. Tommy Voris


California author Dr. Tommy Voris is a licensed chiropractor, a qualified medical evaluator, has owned 11 chiropractic clinics, and co-founded 5 holistic fully integrated medical centers. He is a certified NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) coach/trainer and holds numerous advanced certifications in areas of health, fitness, coaching, and weight loss. But he is best known for his sustainable weight loss concept, teaching us to evolve the mind into a body transformation powerhouse – a trait that has earned him the sobriquet of ‘The Anti-Diet Doctor.’

Watch Dr. Tommy on one of his numerous websites and witness how magnetic is his commitment to assisting us to evolve NOW into the person who is transformed though his methods in to a slimmer powerhouse of a happier person. His book and his talks and courses are not only intelligent in concept, but the fact that he has ‘been there done that’ comes through on every page with the energy of a man who was once obese and now remains fit and healthy.

In his long introductory pep talk he offers such diamonds of thoughts as ‘to get something you’ve never had, you must do something you’ve never done.” ‘Relying solely on the conscious mind is the most common weight-loss mistake I see; it was definitely mine. Given my medical and professional experience, I knew what to do, and the most frustrating thing about it was that I wasn’t doing it! I had a strategy, I had a plan, and I was ready. But at the end of the day, that changed nothing; I was not doing what had to be done…. Remember that as much as 95% of human behavior is dictated by the subconscious mind, which is currently pitted against your weight loss. Willpower and determination (sheer dieting and exercising) can change this behavior in the short-term … but that’s not what you need. For sustainable weight loss— changing your behavior for the long term— you must train your subconscious mind…Weight loss is an emotional equation, rather than a mathematical one.’

The book is a work =book on many levels, including assignments to directly involve the reader in the evolution. And given the fact that the reader makes it through Sr. Tommy’s ‘course’, ‘You have developed the most powerful force you’re going to need in order to achieve any and all goals in your life: your power to stick with something and see it through all the way to the end. No other personality trait will propel you through life in quite the same way.’
