Book Review: 'Giggly Bear's Fun Trip in the Yellow Bus' by Kelly Santana-Banks

New author Kelly Santana-Banks is a former early childhood teacher and caregiver who has more than ten years of experience working with children in child development as an advocate for education, especially in early childhood. Now she writes fun stories to entertain and teach children as well as help parents find simple solutions for their little ones' lives. THE ADVENTURES OF FROBLICIOUS FROG was her debut in the published worlds and now she adds GIGGLY BEAR’S FUN TRIP IN THE YELLOW BUS, aided in this successful book by illustrator Sheila Marie Alejandro. The book is written for ages 2 – 6 – (and the pleasure of those who read to children!).

The charming rhyme technique of Kelly’s style is evident on the opening page: ‘Giggly Bear was excited to go to the funfair. At the school he was antsy to board the yellow bus. He almost fell down the stairs.’ His activities – being with his fellow bear friends, sitting by the window and always making safety first by using safety belts. The ride is fun with lots to see and things to learn but first of all it is a terrific little essay on safety.
At book’s end Kelly offers some safety information that is great for children to know - and for parents to think about.

This is a fun adventure, illustrated well, and delivering a message about learning about safety can have a very happy ending – such as finding new friends. This is another fine book for Kelly and we can hope we see more! Grady Harp, July 17
